Putter Fitting
Forty percent of your strokes, and the club most golfers have never had measured. The shortest session on the menu.
Bought on Feel, Kept on Habit
Nearly every putter in every bag was chosen by picking it up in a shop, rolling four balls across a carpet, and deciding it felt right. That is not a criticism — feel genuinely matters with a putter more than any other club. But feel cannot tell you that your lie angle is two degrees off and pushing every putt a fraction right of your aim.
A putter fitting does not take the feel decision away from you. It narrows the field to the putters that fit your setup and stroke, then lets you choose by feel among options that are all mechanically correct.
Thirty to forty-five minutes, and for a lot of golfers it is the highest-value session we offer.
What We Measure
- Effective length against your posture and eye line
- Lie angle at address and through impact
- Loft delivered, including forward press
- Stroke arc — straight, slight, or strong
- Face angle relative to path at contact
- Start-line accuracy from six, twelve and twenty feet
Head Shape Follows the Stroke
Toe hang and head balance are not style choices. They either cooperate with the way your stroke arcs or they fight it.
Face-Balanced
Suits a stroke that travels close to straight back and straight through. The face wants to stay square rather than rotate, and a face-balanced head lets it.
Moderate Toe Hang
The most common finding. A little rotation through the stroke, matched by a head that hangs partway between face-balanced and full toe hang.
Full Toe Hang
For strokes with pronounced rotation. A face-balanced head in these hands has to be actively fought, which shows up as inconsistent start lines.
Most Sessions End at the Bench, Not the Rack
The great majority of putter fittings conclude that the putter is fine and the specification is not. Shortening a putter three-quarters of an inch and correcting the lie by two degrees costs very little and frequently solves the aim problem outright.
New putters get recommended when the head shape genuinely fights the stroke, or when the existing one cannot be adjusted into range. Not otherwise.
- Length adjustment with counterweight correction
- Lie angle bending, measured before and after
- Loft adjustment for forward press
- Grip change for size, shape and weight
Fitted for the Greens You Play
The mat is calibrated to a stimp reading close to what the Midlands public and club courses actually run, not to a tournament green nobody here putts on.
If you play somewhere significantly faster or slower, tell us when you book and we will adjust the calibration and the head weight recommendation accordingly.
Bring Two If You Have Two
Golfers who own several putters usually already own the right one. We are happy to tell you which.
Forty Minutes on the Club You Use Most
Bring the putter in your bag and any others you have kept.
